Technically not a bake off! But the middle boy asked me to buy the ingredients for a lemon drizzle cake for him to make. We have a kiddie friendly cook book called The little dish family cookbook and he found the recipe there. So after work I popped into the supermarket to pick up a lemon and some ground almonds. Literally as soon as we were back from school he made a start. I kinda left him too it, stopping by every now and again to take pictures…

With my original meal plan going out of the window today and with the help of the BBC good food guide I settled on this little one pot dish instead. With a park play date, school production rehearsal and a lazy pre-teen refusing to walk or ride to school this week I needed something fairly simple. I knew I had some chicken in the freezer and Thai green paste left from another recipe, so this is where I ended up. One pot – two steps – three feed children and a happy daddy!

Right, todays meal was always needed to be quick and simple, World Cup fever had hit the house, not only with the boys, even the little lady was spurting out random football facts on the way to school this morning. So after a quick look through some cooking magazines I found this one. I knew I had a pork fillet in the freezer from a yellow sticker haul at the supermarket and most other ingredients in stock. The only problem would be hiding the sweet potato element as sweet potato is a not a favourite for some reason. After a little consideration I decided to go down the just not telling them route.

Another quick and easy meal from the BBC Good Food Magazine. This would make a great lunch, or as part of a dinner with other bits perhaps. I had everything for this dish except the lettuce, so really cheap for me. However all in you shouldn’t be paying much more than £4 for this meal.

OK, tonight’s dinner was never going to be healthy and it came in at around £6 not £5, but it was tasty and I figured we can all be unhealthy once in a while.

A nice and easy one tonight. We have a few extras in the house today, with everyone trying to cram the most into the remaining few days of the school holidays. Being completely honest i have no idea how much this cost as I already most of the ingredients in and all I needed to buy was the pineapple chunks and sugar snap peas. I originally saw this recipe on the BBC food website and adapted it slightly to suit our ingredients and taste.

FREE Pizza - Toppings of your choice (we went for mozzarella, mature cheddar and basil leaves. Oh and the boys found some slice salami in the fridge to add) I had all the ingredients at home, so didn’t need to buy anything, hence the freebie pizza night. However, as a guess you could buy everything required for less than £2.50 for three large pizzas, which is cheaper than just one of the frozen ones you see at the supermarket. PLUS, you know everything that goes into it…… the healthier option for a junk food fix. With the little lady being at a friends house for dinner, it left just the boys at home, so it seemed perfect for a boys only pizza night! Now this isn’t as mean on my daughter as it sounds with her missing out on pizza. She doesn’t actually like pizza as it happens. So a perfect excuse for us to indulge. Firstly I made up some pizza dough using the recipe found on here.
