Sweet and Sour Pork
Sweet and sour pork is the go-to meal for many takeaway nights. But with this really easy recipe, you can save yourself some money and make your own.
It not only tastes identical to the takeaway version, it only takes a few minutes to prepare and cook.
This served about seven of us today and still came in at well under a fiver, making it an affordable alternative to a takeaway.

Ingredients
- 7 Pork Fillets
- Rice
- Snap Peas (half a bag, roughly cut)
- 1 Onion, roughly cut
- 2 Red Peppers, roughly chopped
- 1 Tin of pinapple chunks, drained
- 9 tbsp Tomato Ketchup
- 3 tbsp Malt Vinegar
- 4 tbsp Brown Sugar
Instructions
- Firstly I cooked the rice in the rice cooker, knowing this will keep it warm after cooking. Then (after a quick drive to pick up an extra PS4 controller from someone’s house, because apparently life isn’t worth living unless more than two boys can play at once), I chopped the pork into rough cubes and chucked it into the wok with the garlic and cooked for a few minutes. I then stirred in the ketchup, onion, peppers, vinegar and sugar and cooked through for about another five or six minutes. Finally, I chucked in the peas and pineapple. Cooking for another few minutes before serving.
- This was a super easy, sweet and sour dish that can be easily adapted to suit your family from what you already have in the fridge and freezer. Happy days. 7 kids and 1 Adult feed for another evening.
