History of Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day in the UK has a long and fascinating history that spans over 400 years. The origins of this holiday can be traced back to the 17th century when a tradition known as “Mothering Sunday” began. This was a day when people would return to their hometowns and visit their “mother church” to give thanks for their blessings.

Over time, Mothering Sunday evolved into a day when children would give small gifts and flowers to their mothers and step mums. This tradition continued throughout the centuries, but it wasn’t until the early 20th century that Mother’s Day as we know it today began to take shape.

When it became a day

In 1908, Anna Jarvis, an American woman, held a memorial for her mother who had recently passed away. She campaigned to make Mother’s Day an official holiday in the United States, and her efforts were successful. In the years that followed, Mother’s Day became a global phenomenon, and it was eventually adopted by the UK.

UK Mothers Day

Today, Mother’s Day in the UK is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent, which typically falls in March. It is a day when children and adults alike take the time to show their appreciation for the important mum and step-mum in their lives. From flowers and chocolates to thoughtful gifts and sentimental gestures. Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate the love and bond between mothers and their children.

Send Them Cupcakes

I Love You Mum – Send them cupcakes

Cakes! But not just any old cake. Best Mum Cupcakes from Send Them Cupcakes. For the purpose of the review, I clearly needed to test these, so unfortunately my mum will not be receiving the full box of six that arrived by courier in perfect condition thanks to the design of the packing they are sent out in. In fact, once the kids noticed them on the side and wanted in on the review, there is only enough left for Nannie to have one.

But and this is a good but. They are divine. They tasted amazing and looked fabulous. Each one comes with an edible vanilla or strawberry-flavoured frosting topped with an edible disc that has been personalised with a message to mum.

Send them cupcakes don’t only do mothers day cakes. If you head over to their website you can buy cupcakes for most occasions. And we can vouch for their deliciousness!

The Copenhagen Company

The Copenhagen Company

Candles and diffusers always make lovely gifts. I know my mum loves them. Over at The Copenhagen Company, they have a massive collection of the most delightful-sounding candles and diffusers. They kindly sent me a Peony Blush candle from their signature collection. It arrived in a very classy-looking box and upon opening it didn’t disappoint. A beautiful glass jar, topped with a silver-coloured lid. The test is in the trying with candles. Straight away you appreciate the scent. A delightful smell of geranium, jasmine and rose quickly filled the room, without being too overpowering. If the mum you are buying likes candles, I highly recommend heading over to their online shop and checking them out.

Side Note: If anyone can think of a good excuse why my mum’s mothers day candle has been used, could they let me know in the comments below?
