Sushi

The number one favourite in our house for the entire family. Fresh salmon, rice and lashings of wasabi! The only problem is it costs a fortune! Don’t panic, I’m here to help. The next time you see some prawns or salmon in the supermarket yellow sticker section, grab them and stick them in the freezer ready for your next Sushi night.

The best part is although It may appear tricky or difficult to make, it really isn’t and with just a little practice, you will become an expert in the field of sushi rolling very quickly. Check out the tasty recipe and save yourself some money the next time the family fancy a fishy Friday sushi takeaway.

We love homemade sushi, not only is it delicious, but with a bit of practice, it is fairly easy to make. It is also a great way to get the kids involved in the kitchen with the rolling process. Good food, and simple ingredients for the perfect Friday dinner ideas. Pro Tip – Don’t forget to pick up some sesame seeds and soy sauce from the supermarket to complete this delicious meal.

Kebab

We have all been there. Craving a large, dirty kebab with all the salad and some chilli sauce (that may be only me) at the end of a busy work week. Well, check out this recipe for a Greek-style shish kebab. Not only is it easy to make, but it is also a lot cheaper than a takeaway and healthy too! So go grab your salad and sauce of choice, kick back and let the oven do all the hard work! This is one of my favourite Friday night dinner recipes, straight from the take-out menus!

Chicken Kebab – Greek Style Shish Kebab. This has been, by far the best of a great bunch of new recipes. The kids love it, I love it and who would have known it was so easy to make? We cooked in the oven and on the BBQ. If you don’t try anything else on my site, make sure you try this one! If you like a shish kebab takeaway you will love this. Bringing delicious flavor to the next level and very little prep time is needed.

Chinese Night

Not one, but two great recipes for you here! The country’s favourite, Sweet & Sour and some delicious spring rolls. combined together, they could make a complete meal. The great thing about both of these recipes is you can mix up the ingredients and use whatever you have loitering in the fridge or find in the yellow sticker sections.

A nice and easy one tonight. We have a few extras in the house today, with everyone trying to cram the most into the remaining few days of the school holidays.

To be completely honest I had most of the ingredients in the storecupboard and fridge. So all I needed to buy was the pineapple chunks and sugar snap peas.

I got the inspiration for this because I saw a large bag of stir fry mix going cheap at the supermarket and thought why not! This is a perfect recipe, with fresh ingredients to make a delicious snack or a great idea to add to other easy dinner recipes and make a great meal. A very traditional classic comfort food.

Chips

Do you want to up your chip game? Really impress the kids with some fancy chips? Well, look no further! Triple Cooked Chips. The type you find up and down the country in many pubs and restaurants. They are a little bit of a faff but trust me, it’s worth the effort. Grab some ketchup or mayo and sit back and relax. They are a faff! But well worth the effort. You don’t become the Teen’s favourite chip ever, without good reason. Make sure you add some Triple Cooked Chips to your main course they are a perfect combination to accompany any delicious dinner. They are a family favorite here!

Indian

There are lots of different Indian recipes on the blog. However, this Jalfrazi is the one most people ask me for. It is really easy to make and tastes amazing, plus delivers so much flavor. You can adjust the spiciness to suit all members of the family. If you want to jazz it up a little check out my recipe for naan bread too. You don’t have to use prawns as I have. in this recipe, it works just as well with meat or poultry. Give it a go and let me know what you think. This easy prawn jalfrezi recipe could easily be upscaled for more people by slightly tweaking the ingredients.

Pizza

Homemade pizza is amazing! Really cheap and easy to make pizza dough. Plus the kids get to be involved in the process. Yeah, you may end up with flour everywhere, but it is worth it in the end. Lots cheaper than a takeaway, plus miles healthier too. What are your favourite toppings? and are you a thin or thick base type of person? Making our own Pizza – Toppings of your choice (we went for mozzarella cheese, mature cheddar and basil leaves. Oh and the boys found some sliced salami in the fridge too) I had all the ingredients at home, so didn’t need to buy anything, hence the freebie pizza night.

However, as a guess, you could buy everything required for less than £2.50 for three large pizzas, which is cheaper than just one of the frozen ones you see at the supermarket. PLUS, you know everything that goes into it…… the healthier option for a junk food fix. With the little lady being at a friend’s house for dinner, it left just the boys at home, so it seemed perfect for a boys-only pizza night! Now, this isn’t as mean to my daughter as it sounds with her missing out on pizza. She doesn’t actually like pizza as it happens. So a perfect excuse for us to indulge. Pro Tip – Fresh herbs make a delicious extra to any homemade pizza.

Duck Pancakes

OK! In this case not duck, but a cheaper alternative. Instead of duck, why not make the main ingredient chicken instead? The kids love this recipe and love getting stuck in with the pancake rolling and making a mess. Another really simple recipe to make and a great alternative to the expensive traditional version. Just don’t forget the plum sauce!
